About Dr. Ellen Spurgeon
​
Dr. Ellen Spurgeon is a Clinical Psychologist, specializing in sexual health, sleep, and couples therapy. She is passionate about working with the LGBTQIA+ community and works with patients with a variety of concerns, including depression, anxiety, panic disorder, PTSD, and childhood and sexual trauma. She is also committed to helping individuals and couples reach their relational goals, including identifying personal and relational needs, developing more effective communication, and committing to values-congruent actions.

Her therapy process draws on cognitive behavioral therapy techniques, dialectical behavioral therapy, and acceptance and commitment therapy. Dr. Spurgeon enjoys seeing individual adults and couples in San Francisco and via video medicine across the state of California.

Dr. Spurgeon joined Lover back in September 2021 as part of Dr. Blair’s team of Clinical Psychologists to help deliver content to Lover that is based on empirical methods proven to work and treat sexual dysfunctions.

Dr. Spurgeon’s passion for helping people feel empowered and informed about their sexuality has been in the making for many years. She encountered a lot of misinformation and stigma regarding sexual wellbeing in multiple domains of her life and found meaning in normalizing the breadth of people’s sexual experiences. Dr. Spurgeon is committed to helping individuals and couples develop greater comfort discussing their sexual needs, preferences, and desires with the goal of developing greater confidence in oneself and one’s relationships. Being a part of Lover has aligned with Dr. Spurgeon’s desire to help people explore and redefine their relationship with their sexuality on their own terms.
